We are pleased to once again feature a selection of art work created by students in the Abstraction Made Elementary (AME) program in Boston, Massachusetts. These works were previously shown in the @rt gallery during 1999. AME is a dynamic and innovative nonprofit organization that links young underserved children (ages 6-12) with accomplished contemporary artists through hands-on learning in ways that stress quality over quantity, process over prize, and challenges public perceptions about abstract art. AME has been collaborating with schools, libraries, museums, galleries, and community centers since 1994.

All the works of art shown in this "AME Online Retrospective Exhibition" were created by advanced AME students from James M. Curley Elementary School, in Jamaica Plain, MA and a few home-schooled children in an advanced AME class held at the Eliot School of Arts & Crafts, Jamaica Plain, MA. These kids (ages 6-9) worked with John Ruggieri, Founding Director of AME, and visiting artists to create their own personal language through abstract art. The AME curriculum is diverse, from large-scale murals using letterforms as abstract elements to "free-range" painting and digital art, while absorbing the influences of contemporary art and design. Enjoy the exhibition! To see a larger view of a picture, just click on it.
