Do I need to have a portfolio?
Freshmen: At this time, there is not a Portfolio requirement for admission at the freshman level; however, during the second semester of the sophomore year - all studio art majors (including creative photography, graphic design, visual art studies, and art education) are required to apply via portfolio to continue junior/senior level studies in UF's School of Art and Art History.
Transfer Students: If you are a transfer student you need
to submit a portfolio (along with application, transcripts, etc.) to be accepted into an art major at UF. For more information,
visit our Portfolio
Information site.
Can I complete my prerequisites after transferring?
No. You must have all of your prerequisites completed or in progress prior
to being admitted to any major in the SAAH.
Can I be admitted to another major at UF and switch?
Only lower division students are permitted to do this. (Students with less than 60 credit
hours.) Transfer students are admitted into the major they should be prepared to graduate
from. You will need to submit a portfolio for review prior to being accepted into the
art program.
What are the pre-requisites if I am a transfer student?
See our undergraduate admissions page for this information.
How do I create a portfolio?
Portfolio preparation instructions vary by major. Go to the Portfolio link
and see the specifics for your program. The UF Office
of Instructional Resources is able to take professional slides of student work.
I would like to minor in Studio Art. Can I do this?
At present the only minor available in the SAAH is in Art History. Non Art majors may
be registered for some beginning studios on a space available basis during the Drop/Add period, however
keep in mind that the SAAH is a limited access program.
I would like to visit the School of Art & Art History.
We welcome visitors. UF offers campus
tours and admission information sessions M-F, 10am-2pm. If you would
like to visit the SAAH, there are information sessions and tours on Fridays
during the mid-afternoon. Please see our schedule and instructions about how to sign up for one of our Information Session and Tours at this link.
What is WARP?
WARP stands for Workshop for Art Research and Practice. There are two courses
(worth 9 credits) that comprise WARP. ART 1802C (3 credits) is the lecture
portion of WARP and it introduces the concepts, theories, and information
for the development in the studio portion of the course. It is a forum for
demonstrations, seminar activities, and visiting speakers. ART 1803C (6
credits) is the studio portion of WARP and it is team taught by interdisciplinary
artists who focus in on a wide variety of media. In-depth exploration of
creative processes, principles of artistic integrity, and the nature of
artistic meaning are covered.
Who is eligible for WARP?
Freshmen who are in the School of Art & Art History are eligible for WARP in the fall
and spring semesters. During the spring semester sophmores and juniors who have changed
their major into one in SAAH may take the course if there is space available.
What happens if I am a freshman, but I do not get WARP in the fall
semester?
If you are not enrolled in WARP in the fall semester of your freshman year, you automatically
have a seat in the spring semester. Instead of enrolling in WARP in the fall semester
you will enroll in two 2000 level studio courses. The first will be in your major of
choice (for example, a 2000 level Graphic Design course if your intended major is Graphic
Design) and the second 2000 level studio will be a drawing course.
Are there any Scholarships available?
Yes. Please see the Financial
Aid section of this site.
How may I obtain a UF catalog?
The easiest way is to look at our online
catalog. If you still need to obtain a copy, the site contains info
to purchase one from the HUB, or pick one up from your local high school
or community college advisement office.
