A nice collection of arts education links from the California Arts Project. How the Arts Contribute to Education - An Evaluation of Research "Our review of hundreds of research studies, program evaluations, and research analyses conducted since 1983 provides recent compelling evidence that we must include the arts in the education of all students if we want our children to be prepared for the challenges of life and work in our global society." Art teachers in Omaha, Nebraska maintain this district-wide Web site which includes several on-line galleries of student work, an art education philosophy statement, art lesson plans, and links to related sites. National Art Education Association NAEA is a non-profit, educational organization with over 17,000 members whose mission is to promte art education through professional development, service, advancement of knowledge, and leadership. The NAEA Web site provides resources and information to support their mission. This site is designed to support art teachers looking for ways to integrate technology into their programs. Teachers Guide to African Art The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) created this excellent on-line resource designed to introduce children to the Art of Africa through a questioning approach. The guide is divided into four main sections, each consisting of digitized images of selected works in the de Young Museums African Art collection, an accompanying written narrative, appropriate vocabulary terms, and suggested classroom projects. Teacher's Guide to American Art Another excellent on-line guide from FAMSF consisting of lesson plans designed to prepare a 5th-grade class for a visit to the American Art collection of the de Young Museum inSan Francisco. Descriptive information is provided on 24 art works. Adaptable to other locales and grade levels. The North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts The North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts (NTIEVA) is one of six regional consortia initially established by the Getty Education Institute for the Arts. NTIEVA's mission is to conduct research and staff development in the implementation of discipline-based art education (DBAE). NTIEVAs Web site offers a wealth of useful information and resources including on-line advocacy articles, newsletters, an extensive list of on-line curriculum materials and lesson plan ideas, as well as a links page. |
