ABSTRACT

TRAFFIC dancersTraffic Art and Dance Exchange is a performance-based dance program designed to encourage peer cooperation, support, and engagement as well as self-expression in adolescents and young adults with sickle cell disease. To evaluate the benefits of the program on self-worth and self-esteem, investigators collect voluntary qualitative responses to open-ended questions from participants using appreciative inquiry methodology and use Harter's Self-Perception Profile for Adolescents and Self-Perception Profile for Adults to assess self-worth in seven primary domains: global self-worth, school competence, athletic competence, social acceptance, close friends, physical appearance, and romantic appeal. A sampling of 10-15 male and female participants between the ages of 10 and 26 years will be evaluated over a period of 4 months to two years.
