- How many students are in the School of Music?
Approximately 250; 170 undergraduate and 80 graduate.
- Is this a large or small School of Music compared to other schools? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
We are a smaller School of Music. As a result, we can provide more individual attention to all of our students. Each music major studies privately with a professor as opposed to a Graduate Teaching Assistant.
- Where can I find information on how to apply to the School of Music?
Information can be obtained from the School of Music web site at www.arts.ufl.edu/music. You may also request a packet in the mail by filling out the "information request" form which is located on the same website.
- When do the auditions take place?
Incoming freshmen and minors are expected to audition in November and February. Transfer students
and those wishing to audition for Band Scholarships only (not Friends of Music) audition in March (exact dates are available online at
www.arts.ufl.edu/music). If you are not able to audition in
person, you may send in a tape.

No, actually, most students will not find out about their admission status to the University of Florida until after the audition process is completed.

Yes, most ensembles require an audition. You may find out more details about ensemble participation at
www.arts.ufl.edu/music.
- Is it possible to have a double major?
Yes, students who wish to pursue a double major are encouraged to do the BA in Performance or
the BM in Combination with an Outside Field. The BA in Performance allows a student to take
30 elective hours - in this case those hours would be applied to the other major. BM in
Combination with an Outside Field allows students to choose 27 hours in a specific field which
also can be applied to the second major.

In such cases, if a student is offered a music scholarship, School of Music may be able to take your case to the Admissions Committee to be reconsidered.
- Will I have lessons with a professor or a graduate teaching assistant?
Music majors will always have lessons with a professor. Minors may or may not be with a Graduate Teaching Assistant depending on the available space in the studio.
