Richard Heipp received his MFA from the University of Washington, and his
BFA degree from Cleveland Institute of Art.
Heipp is a painter, who also creates large-scale installations and site-specific
public art projects. He has taught painting at the University of Florida
for over 20 years.
Heipp has recently been commissioned to complete his seventeenth site specific
Art in Public Places project. His public artwork has involve painting, photography,
various lighting elements and relief sculpture. His recent projects incorporate
computer aided design, production and fabrication. His public projects have
ranged from a set of ten foot by thirty foot paintings for the State of Florida's
Fire College, a fifty foot long permanent wall installation for the Schmidt
Center for the Arts and Humanities of Florida Atlantic University, to a nine
unit multi-media installation incorporating two separate sites commissioned
for the State Veterans Nursing Home in Daytona Beach, Florida. Professor
Heipp recently completed a large scale, fifteen panel exterior wall relief,
installation project commissioned by the city of Tampa for the for entry
ramp to the Tampa Museum of Art.
Richard Heipp also remains active as an exhibiting artist. He has had more
than twenty-five solo exhibitions including the exhibition titled The Electric
Image, The Work of Richard Heipp at the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art,
in Jacksonville Florida. Other solo exhibitions have included such venues
as: the Lowe Gallery, Atlanta GA, the Schmidt Center Gallery, Florida Atlantic
University, Boca Raton, Florida, The Alexander Brest Museum, Jacksonville
University the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savanna, Georgia, Francine
Seders Gallery, Seattle, Washington, and the Center for Contemporary Art,
at the University of Kentucky.
His work has also been featured in almost one hundred group exhibitions
in such institutions as the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Boca Raton Museum
of Art, and the Henry Art Gallery. His art works are included in many public
and private collections nationally including the Polk Museum of Art, the
Harn Museum of Art, and The Seattle Art Museum. His artwork has also been
featured in three New American Painting publications.
His many grants and awards have included a Southern Arts Federation, National
Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Painting, and four State of Florida,
Individual Artists Fellowships. He has received more then fifteen University
sponsored research awards in addition to being awarded a College of Fine
Arts Research Foundation Professorship. His teaching has also been recognized
through a TIP award and a Teacher of the Year Award for the College of Fine
Arts.
