Course Descriptions

ART 2305C Drawing: Perceptual Drawing
Perceptual Drawing introduces the fine arts major to the visual language of drawing through observation and rendering a realistic image. The course develops insights in the mechanisms of visual perception, how the individual components of the drawing relate to the whole, and compositional organization. Each student develops observational skills rooted in traditional drawing media. In addition, students strive to develop critical thinking and research skills.

ART 2330C Figure Drawing I
A course in the basics of drawing from the life model, including art anatomy, observation of the human form and fundamental exercises in gesture, contour, outline, and tonal modeling.

ART 2374C Drawing: Movement and Motion
Drawing: Movement and Motion introduces the fine arts major to the visual language of drawing visual movement and the historical concepts of motion in two-dimensional art forms. In addition, students strive to develop critical thinking and research skills.

ART 3310C Color Drawing
This course uses the drawing process to introduce the principles of color theory, composition, observation, abstraction, and psychological effects of color. The objective is to develop observational skills and personal viewpoints.

ART 3330C Figure Drawing II
This is the second course in drawing from the life model involving observation of the human form and exercises focusing explicitly on light, environment, composition, and scale. Figure Drawing II explores more advanced skills of describing the human form involving proportion, volume, mass, anatomy, rhythm, movement of the body, and tone. Figure Drawing II examines the figure in art and its application to content, psychology, narration, and the relationship of formal elements to these ideas.

ART 3380C Experimental Drawing
This course is intended to explore the limits and the boundaries of traditional drawing concepts and media. The objective is to discover something not yet known or to find out whether his drawings are effective workable or valid.

ART 3381C Sketch Journal: Uses and Development
This course is taught exclusively though the activity of sketchbook/journal drawing. This course places emphasis on observation, organization and conceptualization.

ART 3807C Interdisciplinary Studio
This course involves a semester-long project intended to connect various studio areas.

ART 4312C Advanced Drawing
This advanced course in drawing for art majors is designed to encourage independence, self-motivation and maturity in an open studio environment. The course builds on existing drawing skills and facilitates the student their pursuit and development of personal themes for his/her work. The student This course is taught exclusively though the activity of sketchbook/journal drawing. This course places emphasis on observation, organization and conceptualization. will work towards relating conceptual ideas to their technical skills as well as explore a range of drawing media to define content..
