ART 2401C Printmaking: Color Theory
This course focuses on color theory and the application of color in printmaking. Basic monoprint technique, methods and materials are introduced. Lecture and demonstrations offer a historical perspective to the science of color. Examples by artists and movements illustrate the emotional and expressive uses of color. Assignments vary from semester to semester. In the Spring 1998 term, for example, a major class project involved a collaborative effort with the Department of Theater and Dance in which printmaking students interpreted a play being staged and exhibited works in the lobby of the theater during the run of the production. Student images were also used for public relations and program designs.

ART 2468C Printmaking: Figure Ground
This course explores the nature of and mechanisms for creating positive-and-negative shape/spatial relationships and how they relate to a narrative and a non-narrative approach to image-making and how these approaches apply to a visual, psychological and emotional reading of the work. In the course, students explore three printmaking processes: monoprint, collagraph and drypoint (on metal plates).

ART 3442C Printmaking: Intaglio
This course covers the major acid-etching processes including working on zinc and copper plates in black-and-white and color. Non-acid techniques like engraving, drypoint and mezzotint are introduced along with multi-color plate methods.

ART 3420C Printmaking: Lithography
This course covers processes on stone and plate with crayon, tusche wash, xerox transfer, frottage (rubbings), and litho ink. The expectation is for a cumulative development of a suite of five prints based on the student's individual interest. The semester begins with a basic approach to image-making that introduces students to various technical processes and to a studio narrative approach in which students devise their own field of interest. Lectures, demonstrations and field trips to centers of arts to view print collections are integrated into the course. Assignments are based on contemporary concerns relating to figurative, still life and landscape.

ART 3433C Screen Printing
This course explores uses of multiple-color printing generating screens with hand mark-making tools and photo-sensitive processes. Projects encourage collaborative endeavors, working on different surfaces and distributing imagery outside of classroom environments.

ART 3462C Print Photo Intaglio
This course explores positive/negative photo processes and imagery from electronic/computer manipulations. Photo-gravure is extensively explored. Projects encourage students to expand on work already in progress from previous studio courses.

ART 4402C Advanced Printmaking
This course stresses the development of an individual philosophy and personal imagery. Students are permitted to take independent studies in Advanced Printmaking when all other printmaking courses have been successfully completed. Course content is developed with the student's interest, talents and needs in mind.

ART 4955C Senior Project
This course provides visual verification of artistic qualifications for the B.F.A. Preparations and activities (exhibition, portfolio, installation, and so on) are determined in consultation with a faculty advisor.
