Undergraduate Visual Art Studies

The undergraduate Visual Art studies (VAS) program is designed with the philosophy of giving the student a wide range of experiences in general art, including concept development, experimental approaches, technique and formal compositional concerns. The program has built-in flexibility to deal with ongoing issues and new approaches to art making. Students need to be guided and encouraged to explore and to take advantage of opportunities to exhibit, to write, and to discuss their ideas and to begin to develop a portfolio and resume.

The sequence of courses starts with the 2000-level in which form, space, movement and composition are explored in 2, 3 and 4 dimensional media both theory and practice. The student’s work is divided between carefully structured assignments and individually contracted projects. On the 3000 level students get to choose from a variety of upper level courses, not including Graphic design or Digital Arts and Sciences courses.
