Do I need to have a portfolio?
Admittance to most of our studio art majors requires you to submit a portfolio in March of your sophomore year. If accepted, you will be allowed to begin your upper division art courses. If you are a transfer student you need to submit a portfolio to be accepted into an art major at UF. For more information, visit our Portfolio Information site.

Can I complete my prerequisites after transferring?
No. You must have all of your prerequisites completed or in progress prior to being admitted to any major in the SAAH. See the Transfer Manual for prerequisite details.

Can I be admitted to another major at UF and switch?
Only lower division students are permitted to do this. (Students with less than 60 credit hours.) Transfer students are admitted into the major they should be prepared to graduate from. You will need to submit a portfolio for review prior to being accepted into the art program.

What are the pre-requisites if I am a transfer student?
If you are a Community College transfer student you would need to complete the 8 pre-requisite courses which are 2-Dimensional Design, 3-Dimensional Design, Drawing 1, Drawing 2, Art History 1, and Art History 2; 2 studio courses in the major you want to apply to; and you would need to pass a portfolio review for your desired major. You would also need to graduate with your Associate of Arts degree, which must be posted at UF before you start classes.

If you are a transfer student from another University you would need to complete the 8 pre-requisite courses and pass a portfolio review for your desired major. In order to transfer into UF, you would need to have 60 credits from another institution.

How do I create a portfolio?
Portfolio preparation instructions vary by major. Go to the Portfolio link and see the specifics for your program. The UF Office of Instructional Resources is able to take professional slides of student work.

I would like to minor in Studio Art. Can I do this?
At present the only minor available in the SAAH is in Art History. Non Art majors may be registered for studios on a space available basis during the Drop/Add period, however keep in mind that the SAAH is a limited access program.

I would like to visit the School of Art & Art History.
We welcome visitors. UF offers campus tours and admission information sessions M-F, 10am-2pm. If you would like to visit the SAAH, there are information sessions and tours on Fridays from 12:30 pm-2:30 pm. Please schedule in advance for a visit at advising@arts.ufl.edu.

What is WARP?
WARP stands for Workshop for Art Research and Practice. There are two courses (worth 9 credits) that comprise WARP. ART 1802C (3 credits) is the lecture portion of WARP and it introduces the concepts, theories, and information for the development in the studio portion of the course. It is a forum for demonstrations, seminar activities, and visiting speakers. ART 1803C (6 credits) is the studio portion of WARP and it is team taught by interdisciplinary artists who focus in on a wide variety of media. In-depth exploration of creative processes, principles of artistic integrity, and the nature of artistic meaning are covered.

Who is eligible for WARP?
Freshmen who are in the School of Art & Art History are eligible for WARP in the fall and spring semesters. During the spring semester sophmores and juniors who have changed their major into one in SAAH may take the course if there is space available, however SAAH is not anticipating any available for non-freshmen due to the size of the incoming freshman class

What happens if I am a freshman, but I do not get WARP in the fall semester?
If you are not enrolled in WARP in the fall semester of your freshman year, you automatically have a seat in the spring semester. Instead of enrolling in WARP in the fall semester you will enroll in two 2000 level studio courses. The first will be in your major of choice (for example, a 2000 level Graphic Design course if your intended major is Graphic Design) and the second 2000 level studio will be a drawing course.

Are there any Scholarships available?
Yes. Please see the Financial Aid section of this site.

How may I obtain a UF catalog?
The easiest way is to look at our online catalog. If you still need to obtain a copy, the site contains info to purchase one from the HUB, or pick one up from your local high school or community college advisement office.
