Dr. David Edmund is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of music education at the University of Florida. In addition to music education duties, Dr. Edmund has served as interim trumpet professor, director of jazz bands II and III, and professor of music theory. He earned his Ph.D. in music education at Florida, where he was a Presidential Fellow. In 2008, David was among 20 graduate instructors, out of more than three thousand, to earn a Graduate Student Teaching Award. In 2007, he was awarded the Rabbit Robbins Jazz Scholarship, and at commencement was recognized as the Outstanding Music Graduate Student. Dr. Edmund taught for nine years in the Hillsborough County public school district. He was elected the Ruskin Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2001. At Ruskin, he instituted a beginning band program which thrived throughout his teaching tenure. Dr. Edmund served as adjunct trumpet instructor at Manatee Community College in 2000-01. Prior to that, he earned a Master of Music Education degree with Jazz Studies emphasis at the University of North Texas. At North Texas, he performed in the renowned One o’ Clock lab band and directed the Six o’ Clock. He toured Japan and Hong Kong with the One o’ Clock and recorded with the band on Lab 96.
