Bethany Taylor is a mixed media artist working in photography, digital media, video, painting, drawing and installation. She received her BFA from the University of Southern California and her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is currently an assistant professor and co-coordinator of (WARP) Workshop for Art Research and Practice at the University of Florida.
Prior to her move to Gainesville, Florida, she lived and worked in Seattle, Washington as an artist, graphic designer/video coordinator, curator, and writer. She is a recipient of both Seattle Arts Commission and Washington King County Arts Commission awards and was co-founder of a 10-year-old artist run exhibition and performance space called Soil. A full color book, Soil Artist-Run Gallery 1995-2005, funded by Art Patch, King County Lodging Tax, and The Washington State Arts Commission was released in early October 2005.
Taylor’s current work deals with psychological relationships and experiences between the self and a culture always in flux. Her work has been exhibited at a variety of art venues including, Post, Los Angeles, the Bellevue Art Museum, Seattle and the Limerick City Gallery, Limerick, Ireland. She has participated in numerous collaborative projects including "Goods", a faux department store, exhibited at Bumbershoot Music Festival, Seattle, and "Well Being and Major Disorders" exhibited at the ILK Gallery, Denver. In addition she has participated in several temporary public art exhibitions including, Horsehead, an annual site-specific outdoor sculpture exhibition at Sand Point Naval Base, Seattle.
