2014 sees Stephen Fine beginning his fourth year running the viola studio at the University of Florida's School of Music. Using both traditional pedagogy and modern methods, Mr. Fine advocates for careful, thoughtful practice.  In addition to his duties at UF, he is on faculty at the Performing Arts Institute at Wyoming Seminary, and plays with the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, the Gainesville Orchestra, and the New Music group, Ensemble: Périphérie.

Mr. Fine received his Master's in Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and his Bachelor's in Music from Rice University's Shepherd School.  His primary viola and chamber music teachers include Karen Ritscher, Jodi Levitz, Kathy Murdock, Daniel Panner, James Dunham, Norman Fischer, Mark Sokol, Jean-Michel Fonteneau, Phil Setzer, and Gil Kalish.

Scholarly interests include historical performance practice, Mozart's operas, and educational psychology.  Mr. Fine lives in Gainesville, his home town; he plays on a Modern viola made by Italian luthier Emilio Celani and a Baroque viola made by Brooklyn-based luthier Christopher Bollman with bows made by fellow-Gainesvillian David H. Forbes.
