Robert Westin teaches Renaissance and Baroque art history and his special area of research is Italian Baroque sculpture. He lived in Rome for nearly four years and has worked in the Secret Archives of the Vatican, the State Archives of Rome and many private Italian family archives. Dr. Westin’s writings have been published in "The Art Bulletin", "The Burlington Magazine" and other professional journals. He is also co-author of "Carlo Maratti" and "His Contemporaries: Figurative Drawings from the Roman Baroque" (University Park: Museum of Art, Pennsylvania State University, 1975). His article "Ars Moriendi Tradition and the Visualization of Death in Roman Baroque Sculpture" was published in the "International Journal of Death Education" (1976). He is writing a book "The School of Bernini, Sculpture in Rome in the Seventeenth Century and Sculpture in Saint Peter's". Dr. Westin published nine articles on Roman Baroque sculpture for the "Dictionary of Art" and consulted on many more. He has served on the Art Editorial Board for Harper and Row Publishers and on the Editorial Committee for the University Press of Florida Humanities Monograph Series.

Dr. Westin has participated in study abroad programs in Cortona and Rome, Italy; London, England; and Innsbruck, Austria. He is the recipient of numerous research grants including a National Educational Defense Act IV Grant (1969­1973) for research in Rome and a Faculty Research Grant to travel to Italy from Arizona Sate University where he served as Assistant Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Assistant Chairperson of the Department of Art. In addition to his scholarly work, Westin restores old paintings.
