Reid Perkins-Buzo joins the Digital Worlds faculty as a Visiting Assistant in Digital Arts and Sciences this August. During the next year, he will be assisting faculty, staff and students in a multitude of roles and will be working extensively in the fields of 2D and 3D computer modeling and animation; interactive digital media; scientific visualization; digital video effects and applied motion capture technology. Mr. Perkins-Buzo will also be assisting in a variety of classes offered at Digital Worlds, including offerings in Digital Animation, Modeling and 3D Graphics and Game Design.
Reid specializes in the boundaries where film, animation and computer games meet. He has dedicated the past 15 years to perfecting his talents as a film and multimedia artist. In 1999, he was the lead programmer and technical director for “Sleights,” a game that was a Finalist in the Independent Game Festival at the 1999 Game Developer’s Conference. In addition, Perkins-Buzo has been widely recognized for his live-action films, animated films and 3D cinematography. His computer animated short, “The Tortilla Moon,” won the Jury Award for best short animation at the San Francisco Latino Film Festival in 2004, and his interactive installation work has been included in traveling exhibitions and art books.
Reid is also an experienced instructor and has taught classes at Academy of Art University (San Francisco, California), Columbia College (Chicago, Illinois), Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois), and DePaul University (Chicago, Illinois). During his time at Northwestern University, John was the recipient of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts Fellowship as well as the Excellence in Art and Technology Award from the Center for Art and Technology.
