Deborah Lee Sperlich is the voice instructor for students working toward a BFA degree in Musical Theatre at the University of Florida, where she has been an adjunct member of the faculty since 1987.  She received a Masters Degree in Voice Performance from Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Florida.  Prior to coming to UF, she was on the voice faculty at Jacksonville State University in Alabama.

As a classical singer, she specializes in performing with Baroque and contemporary chamber ensembles, including concerts in Argentina and Hong Kong, and is a regular performer on the Jubilus Concert Series at St. Augustine Church in Gainesville, Florida.  Her non-classical performing experience includes work as a singer/dancer at Disneyworld and as performer and choreographer at several Musicana Dinner Theatres throughout Florida.
Ms. Sperlich has been a recitalist and lecturer at several professional music conferences at the state and national level, including presentations for the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the Florida State Music Teachers Association.

Currently, her ongoing research is primarily in the area of teaching musical theatre singing and has participated in numerous workshops and training venues focusing on the techniques involved in various styles of healthy belting.  She particularly enjoys the challenge of preparing her students to be versatile in a wide range of styles – from opera to musical theatre, and other forms of contemporary commercial music required of the musical theatre singer today.

Many of her former students are working professionals in shows including those on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theatre and national tours.
