Shands Arts in Medicine Infusion Room/2007-Present

One of the integral elements of being an IFAH member is learning and experiencing art as a source of renewal and healing.  To gain this understanding and to acquire the essential background required to travel with IFAH, many members volunteer with the Arts in Medicine (AIM) program at Shands Hospital.  AIM was founded in 1990 at Shands and has since grown into a far-reaching, multidisciplinary organization that encompasses visual arts, dance, literary arts, music, and mind/body renewal programs.  New AIM volunteers are paired with one of the 13 paid artists-in-residents who coach them how to interact with patients and aid them in participating in the transformation that AIM brings to patients, their families, and staff in the hospital.  IFAH members have renewed the presence of AIM in Infusion Room at the Shands Medical Plaza.  The Infusion Room is an outpatient clinic where cancer patients receive chemotherapy, a process than often takes 4-5 hours, and other IV services. IFAH volunteers have been active in visiting with patients on a weekly basis and bringing art into their space.
