Julie Lawson
Julie Lawson has been studying carillon since the beginning of her second year at the University of Florida in August of 2002. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in December of 2005 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. This August she will begin work on her doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Delaware. Julie hopes to continue her carillon studies during graduate school.
As someone who has always loved music and experimented with a number of instruments while growing up, Julie became interested in playing "the bells" during her freshman year upon learning that someone was actually up there ringing the bells. She used to tell her friends, "Just wait, I'm going to be the person ringing the bells." Like others who study carillon at UF, - she enjoys creating music for the entire campus to hear.
