Research Interests:

Interdisciplinary Visual Arts Exhibitions Contemporary Art

Research Summary:

The University Gallery exhibitions I have organized offer means of translating the content of many disciplines through visual art. My own doctoral research was directly related to this focus; teaching and learning through various disciplinary and cognitive channels in visual art. The exhibitions I have curated on campus provide mechanisms to teach about looking at art and developing critical analysis through visual modes of inquiry. Collaboration partners have included medicine, law, physics, history, journalism, environmental science, criminology and athletics. I have also worked with the City of Gainesville, Alachua County, the public school system, and many community partners. Dynamic dialogues have engendered further work among these fields at the university and beyond, cultivating a balance to learning channels and developing concepts integral to a “creative campus.”

Painting/printmaking was my MFA focus and I also have maintained a strong involvement with textiles throughout my creative life. Five years ago I began a new direction, moving away from painting and completed ten found object/embroidered fiber works (quilts made from bathing suits, Marimekko fabrics, other items). The solo exhibition, titled “Crazy Eights,” consists of eight quilts is currently traveling to eight venues in Florida and Georgia through 2010 including the MIA Gallery, Miami International Airport, Miami, 621 Gallery, in Tallahassee, Crisp-Ellert Art Museum at Flagler College in St. Augustine, the Cofrin Arts Center Gallery, Oak Hall School, Gainesville and Mattie Kelly Fine Art at Northwest Florida State College.
