Research Summary:

Tillander's research explores digital technologies and contemporary learning. Her research explores digital technology’s potential impacts and limitations to communication, and acknowledges the emerging vernacular of youth who are ubiquitously engaged with digital media through visual digital processes. As part of my teaching philosophy, I recognize the need for reflection on the multiple ecologies of digital culture and our own educational trajectories. As a scholar, sometimes individually or in collaboration, we must design our own learning systems that draw from personal, local, and multiple knowledge traditions to learn and then share with others. For example, the use of digital technology in the MA in Art Education programdemonstrates that digital tools and platforms, if properly designed, enhance creative and critical thinking, and create new innovative models of teaching and learning for the unique style of higher education needed today.
