Location Fact Sheet

April 29 - August 10, 2011
Public Reception, Thursday, April 28, 7-9PM

Location Fact Sheet features new work produced by a group of artists who have taken part in the University of Florida's study abroad studio programs in Paris and Berlin. The two-part show includes work on mapping and dislocation in Berlin, and on the subject of the pseudo-event in specific sites across the city of Paris. These artworks are neither documents nor an archive. Instead, they operate as a demonstration of the process, mannerism, ethics, and plausibility of the pseudo-event and its effort to construct fact through performance, imaging and discourse.

In Berlin, the class "Portable Islands" has been taught by Wes Kline, Assistant Professor in the School of Art History at the University of Florida, and the class "Cinematic Cartographies: Theory and Practice of the Moving Image" has been taught by Roger Beebe, Associate Professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

In Paris, the class "Pseudo Events" has been conceptualized and led by Dr. Craig Smith, Associate Professor in the School of Art and Art History at the University of Florida. In addition, this course has been supported by the production and participation of Dr. Carrie Lambert-Beatty (Harvard University), Colin Beatty (Pricewaterhouse Coopers), Dr. Laura Cull (Northumbria University), and Professor John Mullarkey (Kingston University). Support and assistance of Emily Seftel, K-Rae Nelson, and Dr. Gayle Zachmann of the Paris Research Center made the course possible.

The artists featured in this exhibition include:
Paris: Sherri Blase, Elena Dahl, Budd Dees, Rachael Kerley, Cristina Molina, Nicole Opiela, Kristin Reeves, Rosemarie Romero, Danielle Smith, Jeff Stover

Berlin: Elena Dahl, Travis Dossett, Paul Guzman, Ben Knazick, Brian Lieberman, Jordan Marty, Brittany Rhoads, Aaron Seitz, Stacy Streeter.
