Fellowships
The
College of Fine Arts awards several fellowships
to new graduate students each year. To be considered,
please submit the Application
for Graduate Fellowship or Assistantship
form with your graduate admissions application
package by the due date. Please follow the step-by-step
admission instructions for full consideration
of your application.
Specific details and criteria regarding the fellowships
are located on the Office of the Provost web site:
http://www.aa.ufl.edu/fellows/
The College generally awards full fellowships
(Presidential and Alumni Fellowships) at $14,000
annually for three or four years depending on
the program. Only students pursuing the Master
of Fine Arts and doctoral degree are eligible
to apply for fellowships. These fellowships include
a stipend, a $400 subsidy toward health insurance,
and a tuition waiver. The supplemental fellowships
(Graduate School Grinter Fellowship) pay between
$3000 and $4000 an academic year for a total of
three years, but do not include a tuition waiver.
The Office of Graduate Minority Programs (OGMP)
also offers several fellowship opportunities to
underrepresented and ethnic minorities (African-Americans,
Hispanic/Latino-Americans, Native Americans, Native
Alaskans [Eskimo or Aleut] and Native Pacific
Islanders). For more information, please visit
their site at: http://gradschool.rgp.ufl.edu/ogmp/resources.html
Graduate Assistantships
Each School in the College of Fine Arts awards
several graduate assistantships to new students.
In addition to Master of Fine Arts and doctoral
students, those pursuing a master's degree are
eligible to apply for graduate assistantships.
You may indicate your interest for an assistantship
on the Application
for Graduate Fellowship or Assistantship
form, which should be included with your admissions
application package.
Assistantships are salaried positions that require
a time commitment ranging from 13 hours to 20
hours per week performing duties related to teaching,
technical/studio/lab assistance, office administrative
assistance and research. Assistantships constitute
the majority of the College's financial aid funds.
Graduate assistants are evaluated each year and
reappointment is based on the faculty evaluation
of performance and the student's satisfactory
progress in the degree program. Most assistantships
are extended for the duration of the student's
program. Students holding at least quarter-time
graduate assistantships are eligible for tuition
waivers up to the minimum credits required for
full-time enrollment. Tuition waivers for each
semester will be granted to qualifying assistants,
provided they maintain a 3.0 GPA and are employed
on or before the first day of classes through
the end of final exams. Tuition waivers do not
cover fees associated with registration, (approximately
$400-$600 per semester) nor do they cover lab
fees, which range between $20-$45 per course.
All fees must be paid by the fee payment deadline
to avoid a $100 late fee payment charge and cancellation
of registration.
