University of Florida International Theatre Production Program

People coming together in the celebration of the arts of theatre and dance have long had and will continue to have the power to change the world. This is the mission of the University of Florida International Theatre Production Program. Now in its sixteenth year and directed by Professor Judith Williams, the program has showcased the work of 15 UF faculty and 260 students.

We have toured five Shakespeare productions to amphitheatres in Greece, three productions to Russia, three experimental productions to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, as well as two tours to England, the Netherlands, and Austria and on to South Africa. In May 2005 we completed a tour to Russia of an aerial A Midsummer Night’s Dream performed in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novorossiisk.

Our Spring 2006 production of Lysistrata has been invited to perform on the Marble Amphitheatre in Athens, Greece and on the Anagyrios Amphitheatre on the Greek Island of Spetses in June 2006.

These international pilgrimages have enriched the lives of many of our students and faculty. The opportunity to show our art with another culture is life changing. And in returning home to the United States, the students have a far greater appreciation of the freedoms and opportunities they once took for granted.
