SOURCES OF INFORMATION

The manuscript inventories were gathered from a variety of published sources and from the Musicological Archives for Renaissance Manuscript Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (hereafter Illinois Musicological Archives). Several resources were invaluable in collecting and creating inventories of the printed anthologies, most of them housed at the Illinois Musicological Archives. These include the preliminary motet list for The New Josquin Edition;[1] the the typcescript of the late Howard Mayer Brown's RISM volume containing inventories of all types of music, including motets, printed before 1550; inventories produced by many scholars for the Musicological Archives; and the microfilms of primary sources.
