The Department is unique for the diversity
of its course offerings and the flexibility in the design of its
graduate programs. In addition to offerings in the traditional literary
periods and creative writing, interdisciplinary areas of particular
strength include film studies, media and technology studies, cultural
studies, children’s literature and culture, rhetoric and composition,
and postcolonial studies. The Lingua Franca Insider’s Guide
to Graduate Schools ranked Florida among the top 5 departments in
the nation for literary and critical theory. The graduate students
comprise a lively community of scholars, artists, and teachers-in-training.
They bring to the Department a wide variety of life experiences
and come from all over the United States and Canada, as well as
Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. For information
regarding the Department’s course offerings and programs of
study, please see the Department of English web page at www.english.ufl.edu/index.html.
