Matheson Museum (Gainesville)
The Museum complex includes 4 sites: the Matheson Museum, housing the exhibit hall and research library, the Matheson House, the Tison Tool Museum, and Sweetwater Park.The Matheson Museum building, Gainesville's old American Legion Hall, offers permanent and temporary exhibitions that tell the story of Alachua County, Florida.The Matheson House, built in 1867, is the second-oldest residence in Gainesville and is now operated as an historic house museum. The Tison Tool Museum, open by appointment only, houses the unique tool collection of Gainesville native John Mason Tison, Jr. Sweetwater Park, located directly behind the Museum, is a joint effort of the Matheson Museum and the City of Gainesville, and is still under construction. When completed, the Park will be an outdoor museum which will interpret the area's local and natural history. The Museum also houses a library and archives with an extensive collection of Florida and local history books and periodicals, and a growing collection of local historical maps, photographs, papers, and museum objects.
Appleton Museum of Art (Ocala)
The Appleton Museum of Art is one of the South's premier art repositories and education centers. Originally built to display and preserve the collection of Arthur I. Appleton, the museum has expanded to include traveling exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural events. Current collections include African, American, Ancient, Asian, Contemporary, European, Islamic and Pre-Columbian art.
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park (Cross Creek)
The park is a 1930's-era Florida homestead where author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings lived and worked in the tiny community of Cross Creek. Her cracker style home and farm, where she wrote her Pulitzer prize–winning novel The Yearling, has been restored and is preserved as it was when she lived here. Rawlings´ farmyard, grove, and nature trails are open daily, throughout the year.
Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center (Ocala)
The Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center, operated by Marion County Public Schools, is a natural history museum and hands-on study center. It is located in Silver River State Park, one of the most recent acquisitions in Florida's State Park system. The park has over 5,000 acres containing 14 distinct plant communities, nearly 20 miles of river frontage and many springs. The Museum and Environmental Education Center offer exhibits, guided tours on an interpretive nature trail, hands-on activities and a lab that interpret the cultural and natural history of Florida.
Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing (Ocala)
The Garlits Museums complex includes two museums – the Big Daddy's Museum of Drag Racing and the Museum of Classic Automobiles. Together, they offer visitors a unique experience in automobile history. The Classic Car Collection includes a classic display of exceptional Vintage Cars, Early Fords, Hot Rods, and sixties - seventies muscle cars. The complex also houses the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame which honors drag racing's pioneers and heros.
Museum of Arts and Sciences (Daytona Beach)
The Museum houses the Center for Florida History, "Africa: Life and Ritual" Exhibit, Gallery of Chinese Art, "Cuba: A History in Art," Gallery of American Arts, and the Root Family Museum. The Museum also includes a planetarium and Old St. Augustine Village, a collection of nine historic homes formerly owned by St. Augustine resident and philanthropist Kenneth Worcester Dow.
Orlando Museum of Art (Orlando)
Located in Orlando Loch Haven Park, the Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) is one of Florida's cultural gems and a popular destination for visitors from all over the world. The collection focuses on American art from the 19th century to the present, African art and art of the ancient Americas. Outstanding temporary exhibitions are drawn from private collections and those of the world's great museums.
Tampa Museum of Art (Tampa)
The Tampa Museum of Art's permanent collection of over 4500 objects is at the heart of this mission. The Museum has established important collections in two main areas: Greek and Roman antiquities and modern and contemporary paintings, sculpture, works on paper, photography and decorative arts. The Museum houses one of the largest collections of Greek and Roman antiquities in the Southeast. The Joseph Veach Noble Collection forms the core of this important collection known for its outstanding selection of painted Greek pottery, including one of the finest groups of South Italian vases. Pottery, sculpture, glass and metal artifacts reveal the exciting history of these ancient cultures.
Jacksonville Museum of Art (Jacksonville)
The new 60,000 square foot, six-floor facility houses the Museum’s permanent collection of modern and contemporary art, traveling exhibitions, educational facilities, a theater, the Museum store, and café.
Museum of Science and History & Alexander Brest Planetarium (Jacksonville)
Exhibitions include "Atlantic Tails - Whales, Dolphins & Manatees of North East Florida," "Currents of Time - A History of Jacksonville and North East Florida," Hixon Native Plant Courtyard, The Jacksonville Jaguars Hall of Fame Exhibition, JEA Science Theater & Aqua Expo, Kidspace, Prehistoric Park, and the Universe of Science. Regularly scheduled shows in the Alexander Brest Planetarium has a full calendar of events scheduled, in addition to "Cosmic Concerts," a laser light and music experience under the dome of the Planetarium.
Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens (Jacksonville)
The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens' permanent collection has grown to over five thousand works of art encompassing eight thousand years of art history. Particularly noteworthy additions are the Wark Collection of early Meissen porcelain, the Dennis C. Hayes Collec-tion of Japanese woodblock prints, and the Eugène Louis Charvot Collection of nineteenth-century prints and paintings. The Gardens include an English garden, Italian garden, seasonal highlights garden, and garden ornaments.
St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts (St. Petersburg)
