Who's In The Studio?


UF Bassoon Studio

Valery Neiberger is a Junior bassoon performance major. She is from Winter Park florida and has been playing bassoon since she was in the seventh grade.

Ben Pickos is a senior double majoring in Political Science and English with a minor in Music Performance. He graduated from Winter Haven High School in 2006, and was the recipient of the prestigious John Phillip Sousa Award. He has been a member of the UF Marching Band, UF Symphony Orchestra, and the Ocala Symphony Orchestra. During the summer of 2008, Ben studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria where he took lessons at the Mozarteum. He has been a member of UF Wind Symphony since fall 2006 and plays bassoon and contrabassoon. After graduation, he will attend law school.

Jillian Coons is a first year master student in Music Performance. She graduate from St. Augustine high school in 2005 and has been playing bassoon since 2002. Jillian participated in District and State solo and ensemble during high school and recieved several superiors. She also was a memeber of the Jacksonville Symphony Youth orchestra, during which time participated in the World's Largest Concert which aired on PBS. While at UF, Jillian has performed with the University Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and the Sunshine Steelers steel drum ensemble. She has also performed with several local orchestras including the Central Florida Symphony Orchestra and Valdosta Symphony Orchestra.

Tristan Hensley is a third year student at the University of Florida and is majoring in Human Nutrition and Food Sciences. He graduated from Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, Florida in 2007. He was a member of the All-County Band for four consecutive years, and a member of the All-County Orchestra for two years. He has preformed in the National Adjudicators Invitational band competition in both Washington D.C. and Chattanooga, TN. During these events he had solos in such pieces as Pictures At An Exhibition and in Four Scottish Dances, and was awarded the National Soloist honor at both events. Tristan has also been awarded numerous Superior ratings for his participation as a soloist, in woodwind quintets, quartets, and trios.

Mike Polatsek is a 5th year History major. He will graduate in December.

Greg Lavine is a Junior Accounting major. He is a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity.

Aunna Kilgore is a sophmore bassoon minor. She is a member of Tau Beta Sigma.

Clarisse Benson is a performance major from Gainesville and has been playing the bassoon since 2002.  She has performed with the Buchholz High School Wind Symphony, Jazz Band, and was drum major in the marching band. She has also performed with the Alachua County Youth Orchestra for 5 years.  Clarisse has earned several superiors in District and State level Solo and Ensemble festivals and has participated in All-County, All-State, and Tri-State honor bands.

Anna Hartzog is a freshman at the University of Florida majoring in bassoon performance. She attended Dryfoos School of the Arts in West Palm, performing with the Wind Ensemble and Philharmonic Orchestra. She also participated in the Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County for five years. She played with the all-district band throughout high school and preformed at solo and ensemble for seven years receiving, all superiors.

Mark Julian is a Music Ed. major from Williston FL and has been playing the bassoon since the sixth grade.

Anna Jones is an IB graduate from Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida. Anna started playing bassoon in 8th grade. While participating in band at school, she also enjoyed playing in the Sarasota Orchestra Youth Symphony program for five years. She participated in State Solo and Ensemble with a double reed quartet, receiving straight superiors for two consecutive years. Anna is majoring in Food Science and Human Nutrition and minoring in music. Anna enjoys traveling internationally. She has been to England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and China.

Eytan Oren is a first year performance major form Gainesville, Fl. He has been playing bassoon since 6th grade. Eytan attended Buchholz High School and has been in Tri-State Honor Band as well as multiple All-County Bands. Eytan also played in the Alachua County Youth Orchestra for 4 years.
