other things to do
While you're visiting the University of Florida, you are going to want to do things that tell you something about life in Gainesville. The following is a list of things you need to do if you want to understand what it means to be a Florida Gator.

Take a Campus Tour: Taking a campus tour is the best way for you to learn about the UF campus. This is one thing you absolutely need to do while you're here. A tip from the upperclassmen: Instead of just going on the tour without actively participating, take time while walking from location to location to talk to your tour leader and ask them questions about their experiences at UF. Their answers will be much more candid than the answers they give when speaking in front of the whole tour group.
Go To a Gator Football Game: You won't truly understand the meaning of "It's Great To Be a Florida Gator" until you've sat in The Swamp with 90,000 screaming fans. You'll want to get to the game early to watch the pre-game festivities, then stay for the rest of the game to learn about UF Football traditions.
Eat at The Swamp Restaurant: Located two blocks down the road from the football stadium, The Swamp Restaurant is one of Gainesville's most popular restaurants, known for its excellent food and great atmosphere. Definitely check it out for lunch, as well as the other shops and restaurants in the surrounding area.
Listen to a Carillon Concert: At 12:35pm every Monday through Friday (during a break between classes), our faculty carilloneurs perform mini-recitals from Century Tower for students walking around campus. The University Carillon is the most recognizable symbol of the University, and after hearing it you will know why it has become a tradition at UF.
Visit the Downtown Plaza: If you get the opportunity to venture a little farther from campus, Gainesville's Downtown plaza is the place to visit. While you're there, grab some coffee at the locals-only Maude's Cafe and sit on the steps of the Hippodrome State Theatre. Afterwards you can grab a seat for a local performance of the award winning plays performed at "The Hipp."
Peek Inside the University Auditorium: Located right next to Century Tower, the University Auditorium is often recognized by its magnificent exterior and interior architechture. Go ahead -- find an open door, and peek inside. You'll probably find students studying in the lobby or taking a nap on the couches. The UA is the primary concert hall for the Wind Symphony, UF Orchestra, and Symphonic Band, as well as for the Concert Bands and smaller recitals. This facility is also used for award ceremonies, convocations, and various performances from all the colleges within the University.
Pick Up the Alligator Newspaper: They're hard to miss -- the bright orange boxes located all over campus that contain the free Alligator newspaper. Named the best independent college newspaper in the nation, the Alligator is more than just a newspaper -- it's a daily ritual for many students at UF. Feel free to pick one up and read about what's happening on campus and around Alachua county.
Take a Lesson: Don't forget that while you're here you need to learn as much as you can about Dr. Stoner to see if she's right for you. Scheduling a lesson before you audition is a great way for her to assess how much work you need to do so you're prepared to study music at the college level.
