World Music Ensembles
The World Music Ensemble program at the UF School of Music was founded in 1990 by Larry Crook and now includes the ensembles Jacaré Brazil, Jacaré Choro, Jacaré Violão, Marimba Ayin, Afro-Cuban Music and Dance Ensemble, and Agbedidi Africa. Each year, our ensembles work closely with guest artists sponsored through the Center for World Arts visiting artists-in-residence programs in conjunction with the Center for Latin American and African Studies. Over the past few years, we have collaborated with such outstanding artists as Clarlos Malta & Pife Muderno, Cheick Hamala Diabate, Abdoulaye Diabate, Marco Pereira, Hamilton de Holanda, Olodum, Godwin Agbeli, Makandal, Abou Sylla, Pedro Tomás Mateo Suar Velásquez, and João do Pife. Membership in the ensembles is open to University of Florida students, Santa Fe Community College students, and community artists. For information about the World Music Ensembles please contact Welson Tremura (tremura@ufl.edu); Larry Crook (lcrook@ufl.edu) or visit http://www.arts.ufl.edu/cwa/home.html.
