Our Mission

The mission of the University of Florida Opera Theatre is to continue the School of Music’s rich tradition of opera performance by offering students numerous stage opportunities in a variety of operatic styles and performing venues. The College of Fine Arts graduate and undergraduate voice students comprise the cast of performers. This program affords these promising students opportunities to develop their skills as singing artists through a variety of stage experiences. The program is select and the number of master’s degree students is limited; resultantly, these graduate scholars enhance their résumés with leading roles and the undergraduate opera singer discovers numerous performance opportunities from their first year on campus.

In addition to the educational and performing opportunities available to our students, one of the Opera Theatre’s foremost goals is to introduce the exciting world of opera to the regional community by producing musical dramas that appeal to a wide range of audiences. The work of the Opera Education and Outreach program also promotes the growth of opera by performing in schools and at civic events throughout the region.

The Opera Theatre is the performance component of the Opera Workshop (MUO 3503) and is open by audition.
