About our Program
Piano study at the University of Florida can be very rewarding and exciting. Boasting wonderful facilities within a musically and academically stimulating, culturally diverse environment, the School of Music resides within the College of Fine Arts, along with the School of Art and Art History, and the School of Theatre and Dance. The Univeristy of Florida, with one of the broadest ranges of disciplines offered at any univeristy, is regarded as one of the top public institutions in the United States for academic excellence.

Facilities
In December 2009, the Univeristy of Florida School of Music became an All-Steinway School, with the acquisition of 61 new pianos--the largest single acquision of Steinways ever in Florida. Piano majors now practice on new Steinway grand pianos in the teaching studios and new Steinway and Boston grands in the practice rooms. The School of Music is a modern building with an adjacent 840-seat beautiful auditorium housing a 9-foot Steinway and 9-foot Bosendorfer. In the spring of 2010, rennovations will be completed on a second performing hall, which will house an additional new 9-foot Steinway.
Guest Artists
The Piano Area hosts numerous masterclasses and recitals by internationally recognized artists/teachers from major institutions around the world.
Students
Piano students at UF include oustanding young performers from around Florida, the United States, and from numerous other countries including Argentina, Brazil, China, Greece, Korea, Russia, and Taiwan. All piano majors receive one-on-one instruction from university piano faculty. Our piano students regularly distinguish themselves in competitions and festivals around the globe.
Degrees
The primary Undergraduate Piano Degree programs include the B.M. in Piano Performance, the B.M. in Music Education, the B.M. in Combination with an Outside Field, and the B.A. with Piano Emphasis. Degree programs in Composition, Theory and Music History/Ethnomusicology may also include a piano studio component. Additionally, a limited number of Piano Minors are accepted into the studio.
The primary Graduate Degree program is the M.M. in Piano Performance, a two-year degree culminating in the graduate recital. Additionally, Ph.D. students (Musicology or Music Education) may pursue a Performance Cognate in Piano Performance, which includes two (or more) semesters of study and a doctorate recital.
Keyboard Area Handbook
The Keyboard Area Handbook provides some basic information necessary for successful completion of the keyboard program. It serves as a supplement to the School of Music Undergraduate and Graduate handbooks (available online).
