Transfer Student Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the College of Fine Arts, a transfer student must satisfy the minimum requirements for admission as specified in the Admissions section of the Undergraduate Catalog. Additionally, all students must complete two sequential courses of foreign language in secondary school, or 8-10 semester hours at the postsecondary level, or document an equivalent level of proficiency.
The primary criterion for admission to the College of Fine arts is proficiency in the student's discipline. Students are admitted to the program following completion of a satisfactory audition and have achieved an acceptable proficiency in music skills. The community college program should include two years of music theory, including ear training, sight singing, and keyboard harmony; two years of performance major study; and two years of ensemble.
Upper division transfer students may be admitted in one of two ways. Students who have not completed the coursework indicated below for the “professional level” are admitted as “provisional.” This category includes students who have transferred from community colleges that do not offer music programs, students who have not successfully completed the theory requirements, etc. The second upper division admission category is “professional level.” To be admitted at this level, the applicant must complete the requirements below.
Community college transfer students, with or without an AA degree, who have satisfactorily completed the required four semesters of music theory, four semesters of lower division performance study and four semesters of secondary piano will audition at the “professional level” in order to be admitted to the Junior level of study.
Community college students, with or without an AA degree, who have NOT completed the required pre-professional course work will audition at the “pre-professional level”. All students auditioning at the “pre-professional level” will take a theory exam for placement within the theory program and must then successfully pass the final Comprehensive Musicianship Exam upon completion of the theory course work assigned for remediation.
