Lu Cao’s Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition

Public Reception Friday, November 16, 7-9pm. The Focus Gallery is located in the main lobby of Fine Arts Building C, on the University of Florida campus.
Chinglish means Chinese English, which normally indicates clumsy spoken or written English used particularly by Chinese people. It is usually utilized to tease a Chinese person’s awkward English usage. In the exhibition, I use Chinglish as a metaphor for Chinese expatriates, especially students in United States, to describe their embarrassing circumstance. My work is based on daily life and focuses on the connection and disconnection between the Chinese students and the American society around them. My goal is to show their true states, to express their thoughts, to convey their feelings, and to even discuss their inner ideology. By focusing on Chinese students’ experiences studying or working in United States, I hope to arouse concern for their current and future situations. I hope that this work can bring a little inspiration on many contemporary issues, including Chinese modernity and “Globalization”.

Monday - Friday: 10:00am – 5:00 pm
Daytime parking is available in reserved spaces behind Fine Arts Building "C" on Inner Road. When traveling south on SW 13th Street, turn right on Museum Drive, right on Newell Drive, then right on Inner Road. Turn left into parking lot behind FAC; the first three spaces are marked for gallery use. Parking permits are issued to gallery visitors at the University Gallery.
