Triple Threat: UF music, theatre, and dance programs combine for 'Splendor in the Spring' benefit gala

Two popular University of Florida donor circles are joining forces to throw a tremendous party this spring, and you’re invited! The event will benefit the performance programs in the UF College of Fine Arts—dance, music, and theatre. The Friends of Music and Friends of Theatre + Dance are merging two successful and separate events and the outcome will be more entertainment, more talent, and more excitement. This collaborative academic performing arts gala fundraiser is an exciting first for the University of Florida!

"Splendor in the Spring" will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013, in the Nadine McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion on UF campus. Ticket packages are available at two levels: a premium package ($150 per guest or $250 per couple) which will include a pre-show dinner with the College of Fine Arts deans and directors as well as exclusive perks, and a celebration package level ($40 per guest) aimed at introductory donors and general public, including current students, young alumni, and parents and friends of student performers. Guests will arrive ready for dancing and merriment, in black cocktail attire (in honor of the theatre tradition of wearing black backstage) with splashes of bright and colorful accessories.

The center of the evening's entertainment will be a "songbook" gala in Constans Theatre. Musical Theatre and Opera Theatre students will perform favorites from the stage, and there will be a special performance by George Salazar. Mr. Salazar is a recent alumnus who traces his roots to both programs and has performed in the Broadway revival of "Godspell" and the national tour of "Spring Awakening." But the entertainment doesn't end with the showcase in Constans Theatre. Samplings and highlights from other areas of performance, design, and production will be featured throughout the entire evening's programming, demonstrating the breadth of educational programs, diversity, and talents in these two schools.

Guests at both package levels will have the opportunity to bid on a fabulous collection of treasures at the event's silent auction. One featured item is a Las Vegas vacation package including multi-night stay in Ceasar's Palace, tickets to "Celine in Vegas", and the opportunity to meet and greet Celine Dion backstage after her show. Other items range from local arts, fitness, culinary, and golf packages to vacation homes in various regions and seasons—and everything in between.

The event is designed by Keith Watson Productions, known for the creation of over-the-top and sensational event experiences. Entertainment, featuring the wide array of College of Fine Arts performing arts academic programs, has been organized by the talented and expert faculty of the School of Music and School of Theatre + Dance.
