Art Bash 2013 is TODAY!

The visual arts come to life at Art Bash 2013, an annual celebration of the visual arts featuring a wide array of projects by UF art and art history students. The University of Florida School of Art + Art History (SA+AH) opens its doors to members of the campus and surrounding communities for Art Bash on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the UF Fine Arts Complex.

Art Bash offers an inside look at the SA+AH and showcases the scope of disciplines it offers from intimate drawings to ceramic works of art, from vibrant graphic design to sculpture, experimental photographs, interactive Art + Technology projects, prints, paintings, art history and art education displays and more. This fun, free event encourages discussion between students and the community and introduces potential students to the school’s facilities and diverse programs. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the demonstrations, exhibitions and interactive projects from both our academic and studio areas.

Richard Heipp, Director of the School of Art + Art History states:

“Art Bash is our annual open house event that showcases the depth and breadth of the school’s disciplines to the community.  We are very excited about the expanded role of Art Bash this year. Last year over 600 people attended Art Bash and this year we hope to see more. Special events will take place and student artwork will be displayed in our classrooms, hallways and the Fine Arts courtyard.  Art bash presents an opportunity for SA+AH students to share projects while the event encourages discussion between students, faculty and the community. This year we are extending a special invitation to those not currently attending UF. We invite all high school students, college students perusing an associate degree in art as well as any parents and friends – really, anyone interested in UF’s SA+AH - to Art Bash 2013 and experience the innovative programs that the SA+AH has to offer.”

This year’s Art Bash will feature Guest Alumni Artist Jason Mitcham, the artist behind the Avett Brother’s “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise” music video.  Displays will include large-scale inflatable artworks from the students of WARP (Workshop for Art Research and Practice) our nationally recognized foundations course, HOT Clay’s “Pot Bowling”, letter press demonstrations, and live music by the R. Mutt Blues Band, recent winners of the 2013 North Central Florida Blues Society’s Challenge.
