UF Actors to Present Work to New York City Entertainment Representatives

On March 3, 2014, 19 students from the UF College of Fine Arts' School of Theatre and Dance will present an evening of scenes and songs at the 2014 UF Actor Showcase held at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City.

Since 2001, the UF Actor Showcase has provided an opportunity for graduating students from UF's graduate and undergraduate acting and musical theatre programs to present their work to representatives of the New York-based entertainment industry community (agents, casting directors, managers and producers) to generate interest in their talents and launch their professional careers.

Alumni of the performance programs at UF (MFA in Acting, BFA in Acting, and BFA in Musical Theatre) have enjoyed significant success on stage and screen. Among them is Lyndon Smith, currently in the cast of Parenthood (NBC) and who appeared as a regular on 90210 (CW) last season. Alex Hernandez was recently in the Tony Award-winning Peter and the Starcatcher in New York and has regular featured roles on The Black Box (ABC) and Blanco (Cinemax). Usman Ally recently co-starred in Broadway-bound The Jungle Book at Goodman Theatre and Huntington Theatre Company. George E. Salazar recently co-starred in Godspell on Broadway and Off-Broadway in F#%king up Everything. LaVon Fisher-Wilson appears on Broadway in Newsies. Thaddeus Pearson played Tony in the National and International Tours of West Side Story. Nick Erkelens recently appeared in A Streetcar Named Desire at Yale Repertory Company and is currently in Last Gas at Geva Theatre Center. Felipe Bombonato is currently in the National Tour of Man of La Mancha. J. Salome Martinez starred in the HBO mini-series, Generation Kill. Susan Louise O’Connor played Edith in Blithe Spirit opposite Angela Lansbury (Theatre World Award), and Jonathan D. Lovitz was recently in the cast of LOGO’s Set-Up Squad.

These actors, along with many other UF graduates, steadily work across the country on stage, in television, film and commercials. They follow in the footsteps of some of the school’s most notable alumni, including Stephen Root (Boardwalk Empire, Office Space and NewsRadio), Tony Award-nominee Malcolm Gets (Caroline in the City) and Academy Award-winning Faye Dunaway (Bonnie & Clyde, Chinatown and Network).

The 2014 Actor Showcase is open to both industry representatives and invited guests of the University of Florida, College of Fine Arts and School of Theatre and Dance. For more information about the event, contact Tim Altmeyer at 352-273-0503 or taltmeyer@ufl.edu.
