SA+AH faculty showcase works at the Harn Museum of Art The Harn Museum of Art and the University of Florida’s School of Art and Art History are collaborating to present the 45th Annual UF Art Faculty Exhibition, opening Tuesday, Oct. 6. “The faculty exhibition plays a vital role in sharing the scholarly and creative endeavors of the School of Art and Art History with university faculty and students, the community and state, national and international audiences,” said Rebecca Nagy, director of the Harn Museum of Art.
The exhibition includes art from 24 faculty members who work in an impressive range of media, including drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, multimedia, performance and video.
“The artist faculty in the School of Art and Art History are thrilled to have this wonderful venue in which to exhibit their research,” said Anna Callouri Holcombe, director of the UF College of Fine Arts, School of Art and Art History. “Most importantly, this event demonstrates the importance of the collaboration between the Harn Museum of Art and the School of Art and Art History illustrating the benefit of this partnership to the university community and the community at large. In conjunction with this exhibition, we have published a web catalogue, which includes the work of the studio faculty as well as the work of the art history, art education and museum studies faculty. In combination, the high level of research carried on here will be evident to all who visit.”
The exhibition was organized by Dr. Susan Cooksey, curator of African art at the Harn Museum and alumna of the School of Art and Art History for both her bachelor’s degree in studio art and master’s degree in art history.
A university student reception for the exhibition will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 at Museum Nights. On this evening, visitors also will experience a special performance of “Annex” by faculty member Sean Miller and his students.
The following evening, Friday, Oct. 9, the museum will host a members pARTy from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Those in attendance will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, wine, music and the opportunity to view all of the exhibitions on display.
The exhibition is accompanied by an online catalogue designed by Morgan Slavens and Ariella Mostkoff, alumnae of the graphic design program in the School of Art and Art History. The catalogue highlights the scholarship of art history faculty and the work of studio art faculty who are represented in the exhibition. The catalogue will be available for download at the Harn Museum of Art and School of Art and Art History Web site.
The 45th Annual UF Art Faculty Exhibition will be on display through Jan. 3, 2010. The exhibition is made possible by Ti Amo! Restaurant and Bar and Tara and Bert Gill.
