After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Piano performance from Ewha Woman’s University in
Korea, Hee Jung Kang came to Chicago to complete her Master of Art degree in Piano Performance at
the American Conservatory of Music, and her Master of Music and Doctor of Music degree in the
same field from Northwestern University, where she studied with Dr. David Kaiserman. Dr.
Kang won the concerto competitions at the American Conservatory as well as Northwestern
University and performed with Northwestern Philharmonia Orchestra. She also attended the
Gnesin Institute of Music in Moscow, Russia and received a Performance Certificate while
studying with Arkady Sevidov, one of the earlier winners of the Tchaikovsky competition. In
Moscow, she was invited to perform as a guest artist in the concert series at the Gnesin Institute
of Music.
Dr. Kang performs as a concert soloist as well as a chamber musician with her piano trio group.
Her trio has performed with Northwestern Orchestra and participated in many master classes of
Manahem Pressler, Peter Slovik, and Colorado Quartet. She also appeared regularly as a guest
artist in a concert series sponsored by the Korea Times and the Korea Central Times in Chicago
and throughout the midwest. During the past several years, she has been invited to perform
with The Village Philharmonia Symphony Orchestra and had solo recitals sponsored by the
Foundation for the Promotion of Music, Unitarian Universalist Church, and Bok Sanctuary. Dr.
Kang is also known as a renowned clinician and her students won in many competitions and one
of them is now studying at Julliard. She has given master classes and recitals for the 2005 and
2006 Summer Festival at the University of Florida.
Dr. Kang is adjunct professor at the University of Florida and is a member of GMTA (Gainesville
Music Teachers Association) and FSMTA (Florida State Music Teachers Association), and
MTNA (Music Teachers National Association).
