The University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance is a
place where diversity, discovery and risk form the foundation for one of the
most exciting theatre and dance programs in the United States. The Nadine
McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion, a state-of-the-art 46,000 square feet of
performance, teaching, design, production, and office space opened in the fall
of 2004 and provides for our student actors, dancers and designers some of the
finest theatre and dance facilities available anywhere.
The theatre and dance programs at the University of Florida are fully accredited
by the National Association of Schools of Theatre and the National Association
of Schools of Dance, respectively. Our faculty are internationally recognized
for their outstanding teaching, creativity, scholarship, and professional
experience that empowers their students to forge successful careers. We are
fortunate to educate our students in the City of Gainesville, a community that
values arts and culture. These values are especially personified in our
department by the Friends of Theatre and Dance, a community, parent, and alumni
organization which supports our students through fund raising and social
activities.
By competing in regional and national competitions such as The American College
Theatre Festival, The American College Dance Festival and design competitions at
The Southeast Theater Conference each year, many of our students receive
national and international awards and scholarships for their artistry and
academic success. UF theatre and dance students also have special opportunities
each year for performance and study experiences throughout the world. Recently
UF students traveled to Ireland, Austria, The Czech Republic and Israel for
performance, production, and educational opportunities. Our alumni work around
the globe in the best theatres, studios, dance companies, organizations and
entertainment venues in the industry.
I welcome you to view our website and I invite you to visit our beautiful campus
and theatre and dance facilities. Schedule a tour, observe a class, or attend a
performance. Your interest in the UF School of Theatre and Dance is appreciated
and we would like to hear from you. I hope to see you soon in our theatres and
studios.
All the best,
Paul F. Favini
