International Production Program jwbw@ufl.eduThe International Production Program, conceived by former Chair Dr. Judith Williams, has been a prominent feature of the University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance for the past fifteen years. Twelve School of Theatre and Dance faculty members and approximately 225 theatre students have participated in this program, traveling to England, Scotland, Austria, the Netherlands, Russia, South Africa, and Greece.
SoTD traveled to Greece in the summers of 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004. For a theatre student to have the opportunity to travel to Greece, the birthplace of Western theatre, visit the Acropolis, the ancient theatres of Dionysus and Epidaurus, Corinth, and Delphi and to experience the reverence the Greek people accord the theatre, is a life-altering, unforgettable experience. Upon their return, a number of students have referred to this opportunity as an artistic pilgrimage. To have one of their productions invited to Greece and to present their work to an international audience is nothing short of an affirmation of our students as young artists and of the centrality of theatre as an art form.
SoTD was invited by Gainesville's Sister City, Novorossiisk, to tour a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novorossiisk, Russia.
Lessac Institute May 29-June 25, 2005. yanci@ufl.edu
The Lessac Institute, under the direction of Professor Yanci Bukovec, focuses on Lessac Sensory Training. The training is unique in its healthful, holistic, comprehensive and creative approach to all aspects of developing the body and the voice for speech and singing and as creative instruments of communication, behavior and perception. Sensory training is a self-teaching process based on feeling the way the human body functions naturally when it is free of adverse conditioning. It then uses those physical sensations to identify, produce and control the voice and body.
