Prospective Students

The School of Theatre and Dance offers undergraduate programs for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in dance performance, theatre performance - acting, theatre performance - musical theatre, and theatre production (costume, lighting design or scene design). The B.F.A. curricula are designed for students who plan to enter professional careers, allied fields, or graduate study.

In addition to the B.F.A., a curriculum is offered leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in general theatre.   B.A. students who are interested in several fields have the opportunity to minor or dual major in other subject areas.

Admission is selective. Students planning to enter programs in acting, musical theatre, or dance must audition successfully; those in design must present acceptable portfolios. Students seeking admission to the B.A. program must schedule a formal interview with the theatre advisor before starting the preprofessional sequence.

Scholarships

The School of Theatre and Dance awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each year at the School of Theatre and Dance annual Scholarship and Awards Convocation on the last day of classes each spring. A very limited number of scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman and transfer students; however, incoming students may be offered scholarships on the basis of audition and interview results. The majority of scholarships are awarded each year to students after their first year of study at UF.

Minors

The School of Theatre and Dance offers minors in general theatre, theatre production, and dance. Students planning a theatre minor should consult with the School of Theatre and Dance Undergraduate Advisor to select a program of study. Students planning a dance minor should consult Professor Ric Rose at rarose@ufl.edu.

Admission Requirements

Students interested in entering the B.F.A. program in Dance, Acting, Music Theatre, or Production should complete a University of Florida application before their audition or portfolio interview. Please check the University of Florida Admissions office website for deadlines and important information. A successful audition or interview fulfills only one part of the UF admission requirements.

If you are not a University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance student and are interested in becoming one, please send a request for information to FineArtsAdmissions@arts.ufl.edu.
