General Hints
Please be on time for the audition.

If you need to cancel, please cancel at least 24 hours in advance. Call or email Tiza Garland or Tony Mata at the contacts provided above.

Choose monologues or songs that give the faculty an idea of your range, but don't select material that you feel unprepared to handle (e.g., difficult verse, accents). Read the play(s) themselves, not just the monologues.

On the other hand, stretch and challenge yourself with your audition. "Safe" is boring.

An audition is not worth your while or the faculty's time unless it is thoroughly prepared, rehearsed and memorized.

Bring a resume with a current address and phone number, a summary of acting and theatre experience, and current GPA. Head shots are optional.

Bring the completed Auditionee Information Sheet to your audition.

At the beginning of the audition, state clearly (a) your name and (b) the title and author of the pieces you are performing.

You will receive a letter informing you of the faculty's decision regarding your admission into the BFA program about eight weeks after Fall auditions and two weeks after Spring auditions.

Musical Theatre Audition
Potential Students should prepare two sixteen bars of music preferably up-tempo and ballad.

The two sixteen bars should also try to show contrasting styles of legit or pop-rock material.

Also a contemporary monologue.

Total audition time is two and half minutes. You will be timed and stopped if you exceed the time limit.

A dance audition will follow your preliminary audition so allow time to change into dance clothes after your audition.

Acting Audition
Two monologues of contrasting styles or characters - 1 minute each - for instance a classical (Greek, Shakespeare, Moliere, etc.) and a modern or contemporary (Chekhov, Shaw, Tennessee Williams, Neil Simon, etc.) or a serious and comedic piece.

Your selections should demonstrate your expressive range and your ability to work with a text as an actor. It is not recommended that you rely heavily on monologue books as a source of your pieces; these tend to emphasize superficial and "gaggy" contemporary monologues over more profound material. The results are often unimpressive.
