Music Theory at UF

The Music Theory program at the University of Florida serves the entire population of music majors, from the undergraduate through the doctoral level. Undergraduate courses range from Introduction to Music Theory Rudiments through a four-semester basic theory sequence, to advanced courses such as Form and Analysis, Modal and Tonal Counterpoint, and Arranging for Voices and Instruments. Graduate courses include core courses such as Analytical Techniques and a sequence of Styles courses, to highly specialized topics including Reductive Analysis, Set Theory, Advanced Orchestration, and History of Theory. Taught by faculty members from throughout the School of Music, the theory program is designed to enhance the understanding of the inner workings of music for students in education, history, performance, and composition.
