Information for Prospective Students
As the calendar moves closer to the admissions/auditions season, this page will be updated with information and recommendations on preparing for the required entrance exams in Music Theory. All incoming music majors, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, must be tested in written and aural theory prior to admission.
This page will contain information on test content, test dates and locations, testing procedures, and applicability of AP credit.
The Music Theory program at the University of Florida is rigorous and challenging. It is common for incoming students to place into courses covering material they have already studed at other institutions. It is also common for students who scored a "5" on the AP Theory Exam to place into Theory 1, rather than at a more advanced level. This is reflective of the high standards of our program.
