Dean's Welcome

I am glad you have found your way to the University of Florida College of Fine Arts. In these pages I hope you find everything you need to learn about the college’s programs, faculty, staff, students and alumni.

As one of the 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes at the University of Florida, the College of Fine Arts offers baccalaureate, master’s and Ph.D. degree programs in its three fully accredited schools — the School of Art and Art History, School of Music, School of Theatre and Dance. We are proud of our students and alumni, who do great work and help expand the Gator Nation.

We at the college are excited about the vast opportunities available to arts majors and graduates in our global information and innovation society. As Michelle Obama was quoted as saying in spring 2009, “[The President] and I believe strongly that arts education is essential for building innovative thinkers who will be our nation’s leaders for tomorrow.”

These creative skills —empathy, innovation, creativity, design skills, storytelling and big-picture thinking — have long been encouraged in arts programs. Increasingly today they are needed to propel business, science, medicine and all fields into new directions and solutions. With its diverse offerings The College of Fine Arts is positioned to act as a catalyst for fostering and incorporating creativity across the university’s curriculum through its creative campus initiative, which fosters creative education across all UF degree programs.

The college’s interdisciplinary centers, institutes and affiliates, including the Center for the Arts and Public Policy, Center for World Arts, Center for the Arts in Healthcare Research and Education, Digital Worlds Institute and the college program of the New World School of the Arts in Miami, build linkages between arts and healthcare, the social sciences, Latin American studies, engineering and other programs.

Welcome to the College of Fine Arts at UF. Please contact us with any questions you may have.

Best,
