School Needs

Please read on to learn more about the University of Florida School of Music aspirations for the future.  If you are interested in making a gift to help us achieve our goals described below, please contact Maria Gutierrez-Martin at (352) 846-1211 or mmartin@arts.ufl.edu.

Endowed Professorships

The School of Music faculty represents the school’s greatest strength as music students generally make their decision to attend a program based on the faculty member with whom they will be studying.  For this very reason, it is essential for the School of Music to recruit and retain the highest caliber facultyYour support in establishing one of a variety of endowed professorships representing a wide range of instrumentals, vocal, and academic areas would give support to the School of Music in attracting and retaining the very best faculty.

Endowment for Student Scholarships

Increasing scholarship support for talented young students studying at the School of Music is a high priority as the Music program continues to grow.  Competitive scholarship packages for prospective graduate and undergraduate students enable us to successfully recruit the most talented young artists and scholars nationally and internationally.

Research Fellowship

It is important for the School of Music to maintain a strong national and international presence.  Presenting papers at conferences, conducting workshops, and doing research is vital to our faculty’s and graduate students’ professional development, as well as their ability to make valuable contributions in their respective fields.  This fellowship would provide awards to graduate students and faculty to support research-related travel to visit archives, participate in conferences, and present workshops.

Guest Artist Residencies, Master Classes and Lectures

This fund would support guest residencies, master classes, and lectures of the highest quality.  It would allow the School of Music to invite many of the world’s greatest instrumentalists, singers, and educators to our campus to enhance the educational experience for our young professional instrumentalists, singers, and educators.

Recital Hall:  New Addition to the School of Music Building

A 300 - 400 seat Recital Hall is a standard performance venue for professional schools of music throughout the country.  A faculty of this type will provide an intimate and acoustically controlled environment for student and professional solo and chamber recitals, as well as provide appropriate space for professional-quality recording, guest artist master classes, preparing students in training for professional performance careers, and presentation for music festivals and similar types of events.  The new facility will also provide appropriate space for acoustically controlled performance teaching studios, an electro-acoustic studio, recording studio, and other types of performance-related spaces.
