The Young Artists Piano Program offers young pianists private lessons, master classes, and multiple chamber music opportunities. Led by two dynamic artists/teachers — Maria Clodes-Jaguaribe (Session I) and Boaz Sharon (Session II) — students enhance individual development through the study of technique, style, tonal quality, and repertoire.

Brazilian pianist, and internationally recognized artist, Maria Clodes-Jaguaribe directs Session I of the Young Artists Piano Program. Ms. Jaguaribe launched the piano program at BUTI in 1977 and has been on the Boston University piano faculty for the past 31 years. This summer Ms. Jaguaribe will be assisted by Keith Snell, internationally recognized left-hand pianist and accomplished instructor.

Session II of the Young Artists Piano Program welcomes international recording artist and master teacher, Boaz Sharon as director. Mr. Sharon is the newly appointed Professor of Piano and Chairman for the piano program at Boston University. He maintains an active performance and master class schedule along with his private studio. Mr. Sharon's assistant, Clara Jung-Yang Shin, is from Seoul, Korea and has performed throughout Korea, as well as the United States. Ms. Shin is currently pursuing her DMA at Rice University in Houston, TX. Mr. Sharon will also be joined this summer by world reknown concert pianist Yuan Sheng for a one-week residency to teach private lessons and provide master classes for the piano program. Mr. Sheng is currently on the piano faculty of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China and has performed and given master classes around the world, including the United States, Canada, China, Croatia, Germany, South Korea and the Philippines.

Along with solo repertoire assignments, several students are selected each session to collaborate with members of the Young Artists Orchestra in piano chamber music for study and performance. In addition to chamber ensemble opportunities, each season pianists are chosen from the Young Artists Piano Program to participate in the Young Artists Orchestra and the Young Artists Wind Ensemble.

Students receive weekly private lessons and perform in master classes, presented daily. Master classes concentrate not only on technique and performance practice but also include sessions focused on specific works by a selected composer from various eras of classical music. This summer will include Schubert Impromptus, op. 90 & 140, and Schumann "Kinderszenen," op. 15 in Session I and Debussy Preludes in Session II. Guest artists such as Emanuel Ax, Claude Frank, Husnu Onaran, Sergey Schepkin, Frank Glazer, Anthony di Bonaventura, and Robert Merfeld, conduct master classes with BUTI pianists and provide opportunities for question and answer sessions with BSO and TMC visiting artists.

At the end of each week, students are presented in recital in various venues on the BUTI campus as well as on the Tanglewood Main Grounds.
