Faculty Enhancement Opportunity (FEO) Program

Selection Process

Approval of proposals at the school and college levels constitutes an endorsement that the application is meritorious. Copies of successful FEO proposals and budgets are available for review at http://www.aa.ufl.edu/search_committees/FEO/.

Director's responsibilities

  • Faculty must consult with the School Director if they are planning off-campus FEO activities during the academic year, to discuss coverage of the faculty member's duties during any absences that may result from the proposed activities.
  • Approval of faculty absence during the academic year is at the director's discretion.
  • Because FEOs are available to directors, the director does not review the FEO application contents or sign the FEO. The director's responsibility is to approve anticipated faculty absence.
  • Complete the School Commitment Memo, page 10 of the application (available at http://www.arts.ufl.edu/resources/FEO/about.asp). Applications are not complete without this page.
  • When the Director is an applicant for an FEO, s/he must consult with the dean regarding anticipated absence.

Evaluation by the Faculty Programs Committee

  • The committee shall evaluate the proposals using the established criteria (see link), which includes considering the benefits of the proposed FEO to the faculty member, the University, and the profession.
  • The Committee shall meet with the Associate Dean for Research, Technology, and Administrative Affairs to discuss the applications and rank them.
  • The Associate Dean for Research, Technology, and Administrative Affairs shall submit the committee's ranked list of recommended applications to the dean.

Dean's Recommendations

  • After receiving the Faculty Programs Committee recommendations, the dean shall meet with the Associate Dean for Research, Technology, and Administrative Affairs, discuss the applications, and agree on which applications to recommend to the central FEO Task Force.
  • Each college may forward annually a number of FEO proposals that is not greater than 5% of the college's total number of faculty members. For the College of Fine Arts, a maximum of five (5) FEO awards are permitted per academic year.>

FEO Task Force Recommendations

  • The University FEO Task Force shall review the applications received from and endorsed by the colleges and shall evaluate the five components of the application (see the UF FEO Task Force Scoring Sheet at http://www.aa.ufl.edu/FEO/FEOScoreSheet_Sept09.pdf ).
  • Task Force shall recommend to the Provost which applicants should be awarded FEOs.
  • The dean or school director may be consulted if the Task Force needs additional information about the purpose/value of a proposed FEO.
