Reid Hall

Reid Hall – Fine Arts Living and Learning Community

In collaboration with the College of Fine Arts and UF Performing Arts, the Department of Housing and Residence Education opens Reid Hall’s Fine Arts Living Learning Community to any student with an interest in the arts. This art-inspired on-campus community consists of diverse students who share a common passion to pursue creativity and expression. Even the Resident Assistants and Graduate Hall Director at Reid Hall are selected based on their interest in the arts.

This distinctive community creates an artistic environment where students with similar interests can live together. The Reid staff arranges various academic and social programs specifically targeted to Art and Performance majors.

Reid Hall offers many resources to its residents, such as studio space for students to work on current artistic and architecture projects. The Reid Gallery is a great space for residents to display their art projects or even study. Artwork can be hung on the Gallery walls and the lighting can be manipulated to display each piece. Practice hours, decided on during the fall semester, are permitted in the evenings for students to rehearse their musical talents and instruments in their own room.

The College of Fine Arts arranges for professional artists to visit UF and has established the Artist-in-Residence Program. This program is structured to promote the interaction between students and visiting artists with the College of Fine Arts through out-of-classroom experiences. The Artist-in-Residence lives in an apartment within Reid Hall, which allows the artist to share the residence hall living experience with students. The Artist-in-Residence assists in designing and implementing educational, recreational, social and cultural programs, while acting as a mentor, role model and instructor in this unique residential community.

Reid Hall accommodates 166 students, four Resident Assistants and one Graduate Hall Director. It is in close proximity to the College of Fine Arts, and is also a part of the Yulee Residence Area located near an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and “Broward Beach,” a large grassy area to meet and enjoy the Florida sun. The Broward Dining Facility is also nearby.
