Research Biography:
Sheila Bishop's transmedia performance and writing practice blends the highly conceptual with the highly emotional, never in equal measures, delights in cutting “pure” high art and theory with low and vulgar and bawdy impurities, stages a tug of war between the scripted and the improvisational and strives for a seriously-tongue-in-check-serious-tongue and an earnestly-ironic-ironically-earnest-rhetoric. Her current work uses Bishop Bishop, a character she developed through a variety of performance platforms, to explore social, political, religious and academic/theoretical issues and to plumb the question of how performance made using digital technologies shape the collective subjectivities of audiences and performers.
